Dj Lukas has the privilege of being one of the few artists who have performed, in more than one occasion, a show of 8hrs in one of the most respected club of the world , Florida 135.

In this special set, Lukas built, piece by piece, a progressive journey that began with the purest techno passing through styles like rock, reggae techno, break beat, drum n bass, off beat, electro, acid, jacking, wonky, Chicago, and ending with the most energetic hardtechno. A varied menu for all tastes where there was place for all his versatility as a dj.
Because of this really special date, CUBBO Bookings interviewed him to know his sensations, feelings, thinkings and motivations during this 10 years of career and during the incredible and marathonian set performed at Florida 135.

Davedecks – Zenith Inferno

The French label “Banging Records” founded by DJ Okos and Begbie just brought out a fresh release for the new year with Davedecks’ EP entitled “Zenith Inferno”. The style of these tunes can be described as true, proper techno-music just like the groovy kind of stuff that dominated clubs in the time around 2000-2004, rather than any of the nowadays over-represented tech-house kind of productions.

“Floating In Space” is a tune that could blend perfectly with old Thomas Krome-tracks such as “Bitches From Hell” for instance. The beat of this tune certainly bears some similarities. Davedecks scores high with a solid symbiosis of driving techno-rhythms and arpeggiated psycho-synths. Very nice.

The slightly similar-sounding “Hold Me In Your Arms” goes a tad faster, yet appears to be a lot more calm in comparison to the first tune. The breaks are a little repetitive but the strong percussions make up for it and the female vocals shouting the track-title breaks up the monotony from time to time. “Hold Me In Your Arms” can be a good DJ-tool to blend with other percussive techno-tunes.

Third tune in the pack is “Time Disgrace” but despite its title, this track is no disgrace for the label at all (but unfortunately the ugly artwork is!). The synth-stabs melt with male vocals and dynamic percussions to create a really good techno-track which features a much better build-up than “Hold Me In Your Arms” with more creative breaks, while maintaining a high tension just as “Floating In Space” does.

The German word for speed is “Geschwindigkeit” and that is also the title of the last track on Davedecks’ EP produced for Banging Records. The 140 BPM-track develops from a calm start into a furiously banging tune with lots of reverbed filter-action on the drums. Stomping 4/4-snares amplify the heat, contrary to the low-pass filter-breaks that take out some momentum just to let the rhythm hit you even harder once it kicks back in. The use of filters could be a bit more subtle, but anyway “Geschwindigkeit” sounds very effective and can capture the listener even without vocals or much use synth-lines. Great!

Please do not let the really extremely ugly cover-artwork put you off – this latest French offering by Davedecks is a quality-release that lovers of real techno should not miss. If groovy electronic beats at around 140 BPM floats your boat, then go for the “Zenith Inferno”-EP!

Hermetic Unity & Heretik System – Heretik Hors Scierie 808

Heretik Hors Scierie 808 (a special series of vinyls from the French hardtek-collective) is the kind of vinyl-record you may not see often – especially nowadays. This record comes as a very beautiful blue shape-vinyl containing two tracks from John Lord Fonda aka Hermetic Unity on the A-side and a track by artists of the famous Heretik-collective on the flip. The untitled EP is more than just a pretty eye-catcher though, as one can definitely hear once the needle touched the record.

“Jabba’s Dialect” by Hermetic Unity on the A-side shows us right away that the vinyl’s catalogue-number chosen is 808 on purpose, as this track unleashes a storm classic drum machine-sounds on the listener. Distorted, raw and twisted are the adjectives that describe this track best. This rough French tune with its funny name gains an incredible strength from a fantastic build-up with constantly rising tension and an intensity that is enforced by good work on the perfectly fitting synth-lines. A great piece of harder techno music, not only for the hardtek-heads (hardtek is a form of techno which is omni-present on illegal raves and so-called “teknivals” in countries such as France, Czech Republic, Italy or Spain for instance). Fans of old-school techno-sounds will certainly love this track too, and supporters of the more German-influenced hardtechno-scene may see this one neatly fitting into their record-cases also. Splendid!

The second track from the flip-side is Heretik System’s “Bad Reception”. After the great reception the A-side has received, Heretik System’s production does not stay true to its name, as it turns out to be such a cool, solid tune based on classic Roland TR-sounds that a bad reception of the record by the party-crowd is absolutely impossible. Again a lot of very subtle distortion is used on many sounds, and the synths and drums simply make you crazy as you listen to this quality-production. Insane modulations, sharp synth-stabs and kicking, crispy drums with superb programming all speak in favour of this truly exceptional two track EP.

Most definitely it may not be too easy to track down this vinyl outside of France, and if you do, then you can be sure it may only be available in rather limited quantities. Anyway, if you can get hold of one, you should absolutely grab your chance and make “Heretik Hors Scierie 808″ yours! Not only the limited edition-record in itself is a piece of art, but moreover both of the tracks are very dynamic and full of mad, straight-forward pushing techno-sounds coming from the minds of some very skilled producers. The world is in need of more of such outstanding records. To me, this vinyl sums up the art of underground techno music at its best. Expect this one to be included in one of my future “HardtraX – Release The Fury”-mixes very soon! Rarely a record has managed to cause such delight in recent years. Hermetic Unity & Heretik System scored high with this one. A hurray for vinyl in 2011!
